Glossary of Terms
Domain Name: Your domain name is the address of your website on the internet and will be how people find you.
Hosting: The hosting company is where the files of your website live. It's like a piece of land you lease to build your website.
Domain Privacy: Domain privacy keeps your name and contact information private. Anyone can lookup who owns a specific domain name just like you can look up property deeds. By having domain privacy your personal information is protected and the name of your hosting company is given out instead of your own.
SSL: A Secure Socket Layer(SSL) is a layer of protection to make a secured connection between your website and the device being used to browse it. Having a secure website helps make users trust your website and feel confident making purchases. You can identify the security of a website by looking for the lock icon in the address bar.
Database: A database is the lifeline of most website and businesses in general. A database is where information is stored.
Website — Front End: The front end of your website is what users see when they type in your domain name in their browser. This is where users browse and interact with your website. This is where your brand stands out, trust is built, and purchases are made.
Website — Middle Man: The middle man is custom code that makes everything work together. If an authorized user adds a new product the middle man takes the information to the database. If a customer wants to add an item to their cart the middle man gets the product information from the database and puts it in the cart. When the customer is ready to make their purchase the middle man processes checkout. If you add a post to your blog the middle man takes your post to the database and then retrieves it to display it.
Website — Back End: The back end of your website is the place an authorized user will login and perform daily activities such as: add new products, update inventory, delete outdated information, add other authorized user, etc
Logo Creation: A logo for your website is what makes you unique and is where you start to build a brand. Your logo is what people will remember and recognize about your website. Your custom made logo will be the foundation on which your website them will be built.
Graphic Design: Having touches of custom graphic design work throughout your website help build your brand by making a good impression on your users. All graphic design will tie into your logo and theme to make a seamless presentation of your website.
Content Development: The content of your website is the descriptive wording on each page. Properly written content will make users want to keep reading, subscribe, or buy something. The content will also use key words to assist search engines in finding your website.
SEO Optimization: Search engines, such as Google or Yahoo, have certain rules and criteria that have to be met in order to display your website in a search result. Using a few tools and techniques can place your website higher in the search results.
Data Entry: Data entry involves using the back end of your website to enter all the information into the database for every product you sell. This includes product titles, images, descriptions, prices, variations, etc. This can be a very time consuming process depending on the number of products you have.
